AP GOV FRQ

Battle Black
AP Gov. FRQ

1.     Reciprocity /logrolling go hand in hand by that they are both giving something with the expectation that they will receive something in return. +1 For example, everyone who has a job and income pays taxes, however there tax money might not go to benefit them but to benefit a cause somewhere across the country, though may seem unfair, someone across the country is paying for your benefit too. You give money to benefit, to receive a benefit. In politics, Congress will support a bill in order to get support for his own bill. +1

Specialization is when someone (Senate or Speaker of the House) specializes on a certain topic. +1 For example, if someone were passionate about gun control then they would specialize and put all their focus on that one specific topic.

2.     Congress can influence the legislative process by two ways: the first being authorizing legislation, which means revising, or modifying a bill. As American culture changes, so does the language and meaning of words. For example, it used to be socially acceptable to refer to illegal immigrants as illegal aliens, however since we now see that referring someone as an illegal alien discriminates and dehumanizes them, we know refer to those as illegal immigrants. So, one way congress influences the legislative process is by modifying and revising to better fit our country and its changes. (this is supposed to be about party representation in congress- democrats/republicans--- I think… not just congress influencing legislation)

The second way Congress can influence the legislative process is by appropriating bills, meaning distributing money for specific federal programs. This money is provided by the Treasury funds and is used for specific action or purpose.
