Inside Obamas Presidency

Battle B
AP Gov

1. Since his election was during the worst economic crisis, did Obama skip the "honeymoon" phases that our book discussed, after he got elected to be president?

2. In the meeting with all the Republicans, they decided to disagree with every proposal Obama put forth. Would that not hurt the efficiency of the work that needs to be done?

3. Was Obamas decision to go about the bank crisis with caution, the prudent decision?

4. Why would CEOs on Wall Street not attend Obamas speech on Wall Street?

5. Why was the debt ceiling such a bas/significant idea for politicians?

AP GOV FRQ

Battle Black
AP Gov. FRQ

1.     Reciprocity /logrolling go hand in hand by that they are both giving something with the expectation that they will receive something in return. +1 For example, everyone who has a job and income pays taxes, however there tax money might not go to benefit them but to benefit a cause somewhere across the country, though may seem unfair, someone across the country is paying for your benefit too. You give money to benefit, to receive a benefit. In politics, Congress will support a bill in order to get support for his own bill. +1

Specialization is when someone (Senate or Speaker of the House) specializes on a certain topic. +1 For example, if someone were passionate about gun control then they would specialize and put all their focus on that one specific topic.

2.     Congress can influence the legislative process by two ways: the first being authorizing legislation, which means revising, or modifying a bill. As American culture changes, so does the language and meaning of words. For example, it used to be socially acceptable to refer to illegal immigrants as illegal aliens, however since we now see that referring someone as an illegal alien discriminates and dehumanizes them, we know refer to those as illegal immigrants. So, one way congress influences the legislative process is by modifying and revising to better fit our country and its changes. (this is supposed to be about party representation in congress- democrats/republicans--- I think… not just congress influencing legislation)

The second way Congress can influence the legislative process is by appropriating bills, meaning distributing money for specific federal programs. This money is provided by the Treasury funds and is used for specific action or purpose.

                                                                              GOP

Thursday night in the debate between Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, Trump claimed that Cruz is ineligible to serve as president. Trump is still in the lead for the Republican candidates

ISIS steps up attacks far from its 'caliphate'

                                                              ISIS attack-CNN

Isis in the last several months have targeted Istanbul, Jakarta, Philadelphia, multiple locations in Libya, the Russian republic of Dagestan, killing and wounding dozens of people. Isis performs random attacks on targets that have symbols, power, or immortality. For example, France being one of ISIS main targets is described the "capital of prostitution and obscenity" and therefor got attacked at a rock concert. ISIS or ISIS-inspired attacks have been responsible for 1,150 deaths and 20 countries beyond Iraq and Syria, and that number is continually increasing.

Cruz Didn't Disclose Wall Street Loan for 2012 Senate Bid

Ted Cruz didn't disclose wall street bid- CNN

In 2012 when Ted Cruz ran for Senate, he failed to disclose a loan from a very large national bank his wife works at, which could potentially be a violation of federal election rules. When asked about the situation by a reporter Cruz said, "These loans have been disclosed over and over and over again." Ted Cruz has since then acknowledged and corrected the mistake.

Exploring Congress; How it Works

                                              Lamar Alexander-Mental Health Awareness

This Mental Health Awarness and Improvement Act of 2015, this bill was passed in the Senate on December 18, 2015 and goes to the House next for consideration. This bill is to reauthorize and improve programs relatated to mental health disorders. For example, in the previous bill before it was amended was called the Public Health Service Act. The name was not the only thing amended, the text and language was as well, for example they revised, "substance abuse" to "substance use and disorders" due to the medical language changing and in efforts not to offend anyone.
